Police are appealing for information after a lit firework was thrown onto a bus in Ashton-under-Lyne injuring a mother and her child.

At around 9.45pm on Monday 19 August 2019, officers responded to reports that a teenage boy had stopped a number 219 Stagecoach bus on Katherine Street before a second teenage boy threw a lit firework on-board towards passengers.

A mother and her three-year-old son sustained minor injuries and were treated on the bus by a paramedic.

After the firework had been thrown, the two teenagers were then seen to join a larger group of up to five boys. All are described as Asian and were wearing dark clothing. One of the boys was on a bicycle.

Police Constable Darren Nixon, from GMP’s Tameside district, said: “People travelling on public transport have a right to feel safe and this mindless act could easily have resulted in more serious injury.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or may know who the teenagers are, to get in touch with the local neighbourhood police team.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 9225 quoting reference 2926 of 19/08/19 or anonymously using the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
